Nuke Compositing for BUSHITOAD
Hibrid Short Film
Bushitoad was based on interactions between the 3D and 2D characters. The main goal of the compositing was to flatten out the 3D character and add some dimension to the 2D one. The backgrounds were also made by combining the painted image planes and the rendered elements of the environments like trees and gravestones.

To create believable environments I paid attention to color correcting each layer of the backgrounds, props, and character animation sequences.
It was crucial for the mood of the film since each element was animated, rendered, or colored in different softwares.
Action camera movement is what makes a 2D animation stand out.
Taking advantage of layers of images I added camera movement to the action shots.
Some of the shots used an additional FX to finalize the look. Here I added a glint on the blade and a sun radiate in another.
